LAGOS STATE HEALTH SCHEME – All you need to know
On 18th December 2018, the Lagos State Government launched its compulsory health Insurance Scheme better known as the Lagos State Health Scheme which has been in the pipeline since 1999, at the Launch which took place at the Civic centre Victoria Island was the Executive Governor of Lagos, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, The Commissioner of Health, Dr Jide Idris and the former Commissioner for Health Dr, Leke Pitan.
What services does the Lagos State Health Scheme cover?
The following services are covered by the scheme:
- Outpatient care for common ailments and conditions
- Maternal, New born and Child Care including Caesarean section where necessary
- Access to family planning counselling and services
- Management of uncomplicated chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc
- Access to HIV and TB testing services
- Minor surgeries such as Incision and drainage, Herniorrhaphy, Appendectomy
- Health Promotion and Diseases Prevention
What Enrolment Plans are available?
There are two Enrolment Plans
- The Family Premium: Yearly N40,000/ family, Quarterly N11,500/family, Monthly N3,850/ family
- Individual Premium: Yearly N8,500/ individual, Quarterly N2450/ individual, Monthly N820/ individual
How can one Register for the Lagos State Health Scheme?
- Register through one of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) designated enrolment points, platform or licensed Health Insurance Agents
- Provide LASRAA ID card or other valid proof of residence in Lagos
- Choose a hospital of your choice from the list of accredited hospitals in the scheme
- Make a payment directly to LASHMA through one of the following payment channels: a. Bank payments b. Online payments via LASHMA website, quick teller.com/ verve
Which are the Accredited Hospitals?
The list is available at the LASHMA designated registration points or licensed Health Insurance Agents
What if I have an existing Health Insurance?
By law, the HMO should be registered with LASHMA, however the resident will still continue with their HMO.
What about those that can’t afford to pay?
Lagos State has devised a way to use tax payers funds to support those who cannot pay.

Sounds very interesting, but can’t help but be slightly skeptic like with many other government initiatives. How sustainable will it be? In fact, how effective would it be?

I wanted to put to bed and was in serious pain , cervix didn’t open and my life and baby has to be saved….LASHMA came through for me by God’s Grace and the bill was taken care of and they were prompt

Mine is a different case o,the hospital told me point blank that I can’t register for Anti natal that lashma dosent cover for it.
That is very wrong of that hospital, because LASHMA covers anti natal including Cs, I birth my baby tru CS without paying a dime
What about aged people of over 70 years, and who can not afford the money, is there any arrangement for them? If yes, What’s the procedure for their registration?
Is there any plan for pensioners ?
Pls who knows how long it takes for the policy number to be activated and the means one can use to know that it has actually been activated
