About Ovulation and Fertile Period
What is Ovulation Period?
Welcome to Health Check with Dr Gabby!
We are still on our topic of menstruation and today we Will discuss #ovulation.
Do you know when you ovulate?
Simply put, ovulation is when a woman’s egg is released to be fertilized by a man’s sperm.
This released egg remains viable for just about 24 hours.
If fertilization does not happen, the egg and other contents are released as menstruation.
Just like menstruation, ovulation can give a few signs -these include a discharge that looks like #egg white and increased basal body temperature You can monitor this by checking your temperature immediately after waking.
There are also ovulation test kits available.
let us discuss the concept of fertile period.
What does Fertile Period mean?
Many couples use this as a form of natural family planning.
Fertile period is simply the period in your menstrual cycle where you are likely to get pregnant.
This corresponds to the time a sperm is likely to find an egg to fertilize.
If you have a 28 day menstrual cycle, you are expected to ovulate on the 14th day after you begin your
cycle. This simply means counting from the first day your period begins (Day1), you are expected to ovulate on day 14.
You are therefore able to get pregnant around this period.
Remember your egg survives for about 24 hours while the male sperm survives about 5 days. This means
you can get pregnant anytime from 5 days to your ovulation and one day after.
This is your fertile period.
