We’ve said that typhoid fever is transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and water.

How soon Do symptoms of Typhoid Fever Occur?

Generally it takes between 7 to 14 days after ingestion for you to start noticing symptoms of the disease, This is what is known as the incubation period, after this the fever begins

There is something peculiar about the fever that typhoid brings, it is described as stepwise, what this means is that the temperature rises each day and drops the following morning, just as if you are climbing stairs, each day it gets higher then drops the following day. Have you noticed such a stepwise fever? It may be typhoid,

Symptoms of Typhoid in the First Week

In the first week of the illness the organism attacks the tummy The person will feel uncomfortable having pain around the tummy which he or she cannot pin point. As the attack continues the intestine becomes inflamed and narrows this leads to the patient feeling constipated. What this means is the person has difficulty passing stool with the stool being hard. This goes on for the period of the illness. Do you still think you have typhoid fever? or Could it be something else?

Other symptoms that may be expected at this point include a dry cough and headache. The headache is expected to be dull and felt around the forehead. At the end of this first week, the temperature goes as high as 39 -40 degrees celsius! At this point you may see some rashes on the person’s trunk, These symptoms progress into the second week.

Second Week

As the illness progresses into the second week, the illness worsens and the tummy is noticed to be getting bigger.

Third Week

By the third week mere looking at the affected person will tell you something is seriously wrong, they look very ill and are unable to eat, because of this they lose weight. The eyes become affected and you will notice the person breathing fast. Generally one should pray not to get to this point as the person may enter the true typhoid state.
