DAY 2: HYPERTENSION – Causes and How to measure
Hello! Welcome to Daily Health check
DAY 1
What are the causes of hypertension?
We began talking about #hypertension yesterday.
Most of the cases of hypertension are what we call primary hypertension. In such cases, you can’t really identify a cause.
In some people hypertension runs in their family, in others, it may occur due to their #lifestyle or environment, for example taking excess alcohol, excess salt (which we call sodium), obesity and stress.
Hypertension can also result from other diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, #heart disease and some drugs, this is called secondary hypertension.
To know if you have hypertension, you have to check your blood pressure
How Do I Check my Blood Pressure?
You can check your Blood pressure using a machine called sphygmomanometer.
There are two main kinds, the digital and aneroid.
You can check your BP at any clinic, hospital or pharmacy near you.
Alternatively, you can choose to purchase a BP machine that you can operate – these are the ones that you can
strap around your wrist or arm.
When was the last time you checked your BP? I’d really like to know!
Join me tomorrow as we begin to look into the effects of hypertension.
