Will avoiding sugar help me lose Weight?
Does Sugar cause weight gain?
Before we talk about #sugar, let’s recall what we’ve learnt so far. We’ve been talking about various ways to modify our diet in order to lose weight, such as eating a reduced energy diet , portion control and intermittent fasting. You may want to review those topics.
As we well know, sugar has a high energy content and we know what this will do to our weight and our ability to maintain a healthy weight, so it makes sense to have alternatives to it while still satisfying our palate.
Sugar Synonyms
A lot of times we inadvertently consume foods that have high sugar content out of ignorance. When you look at food labels you will rarely see “Sugar” written there in plain english what you will see are words like sucrose, fructose, glucose, dextrose, malt, maltose, golden syrup, maple syrup, mollasses etc. All these are sugars.
Let me give you a little assignment pick up any food package and read the ingredients. Do you see any of the above listed words? What is their percentage? Is it time to make changes?
Substitutes for Sugar
Thankfully there are substitutes you can take which have little or no energy content but still provide that satisfaction you get from sugar. These are called #artificial sweeteners. They go by various names like Saccharin, Sucralose, Erythritol etc. Add these to your tea and cereal instead of using sugar either in cube form or granulated. You can easily find these sweeteners in reputable pharmacies. Avoid roadside sellers.
You may be afraid that these artificial sweeteners may be harmful. Fear not. There is no health risk associated with them.
