Relief for Nigerian Doctors as Samson Plab Academy Opens in Lagos
Nigerian Doctors planning to relocate to the UK can now heave a sigh of relief as Samson Plab Academy, UK’s leading Plab training centre for foreign doctors has now opened a branch in Lagos Nigeria.
In a business move that undoubtedly will see Samson smiling daily to the bank. The Founder of the Academy, Dr Samson Chisi made the announcement on the group’s facebook page.
For Nigerian Doctors wishing to practice in the UK, they have to go through three hurdles, IELTS, PLAB 1, and PLAB 2, While IELTS and PLAB 1 can be easily prepared for sitting in Nigeria, PLAB 2 is a bit different. It entails learning about British Patient communication culture and use of high fidelity mannikins.
Hundreds of Nigerian doctors write PLAB every single month. As the astute business man Samson Chisi is, he has tapped into this high demand market.
Presently, Nigerian doctors make up about 80% of students at Samson PLAB Academy located on Bow road, a bustling part of SE London.
Why is this Good News?
Nigerian doctors don’t have to incur astronomical expenses to get accomodation in London for the 15 day course. Some doctors presently pay about 1000 pounds for accomodation alone to attend the course. Apart from accomodation, feeding costs and transport costs could also be a burden.
But with this move, Nigerian doctors who have passed PLAB 1 only have to present themselves at Manchester for PLAB 2. They also save over 1000 pounds.
